After almost a month of over indulgence eating lots of rich food and possibly drinking more alcohol than normal, January is usually seen as a month in which to detox and many people decide to participate in “Dry January”.
The first week of January is rather aptly known as “Love your Liver” week. Our liver is one of the hardest working organs of our body. It breaks down and detoxifies substances in the body and also stores vitamins as well as monitoring and stabilizing blood glucose levels.
If you have over done it during the festive period the chances are you could be experiencing some of the following signs which might suggest that your liver could benefit from a detox:-
- Indigestion, wind, bloating
- Pain or discomfort over the liver (right upper abdominal area under the rib cage)
- Acid reflux/heartburn
- Tiredness especially in the mornings
- Irritability and low confidence
Some remedies that I may prescribe for the above and liver complaints are:-
Chelidonium – the patient experiences nausea, wind, and cramping pains radiating to the right shoulder blade. There will be extreme irritability and a preference to lie on their side. Poor appetite with a craving for hot drinks. Will also feel better after eating.
Nux vomica – another remedy for indigestion, constipation, cramps and reflux the patient could also show signs of sensitivity and insecurity when they are in this state.
Lycopodium – the patient usually feels very sluggish in the mornings with difficulty to get out of bed. Bloated after eating anything. Insecurities might also be present.
There are many other remedies that can also be prescribed and they should be carefully selected by a professional homeopath so they are matched with the individual and their symptoms.
