Homeopathy & Acupuncture for Fertility

In my Valentine’s Day blog of “It Takes Two” I talked about other complementary therapies that works well with homeopathy and Acupuncture is one of them.

Here Alison Arden, a licensed acupuncturist, talks about her practice and how she helps couples who are trying for a baby.

“In Chinese Medicine, the body, mind and spirit are very much interlinked and treated as one. Trying to conceive can be a very emotional time, especially with assisted fertility such as IVF. To have the mind, body and spirit calm and balanced gives couples the best chance of success.

Acupuncture helps by

  • Correcting irregular menstrual cycles
  • Balancing hormones
  • Reducing stress by releasing endorphins (body’s natural painkillers)
  • Increasing the endometrial lining (the uterus)
  • Improving sperm count
  • Boosting ovulation
  • Improving the pelvic blood flow
  • Balancing the immune system
  • Improving general health and energy levels
  • Inducing ovulation in women with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)

The optimum time to begin seeing an acupuncturist is three months before IVF or before starting to try for a baby. Ideally a treatment every other week is recommended – just before ovulation, to enhance ovulation and just before a period. If having IVF, an important time for a treatment is after egg collection and before the embryo(s) are placed in the uterus. The day after egg collection is ideal. The next important time is as soon as possible after the embryo is implanted.

Of course acupuncture is not a stand-alone therapy in improving successful conception – the nutrition and lifestyle of the couple is very important. Male fertility has been declining for the past 20 years. Smoking for example, affects sperm and there is research to support the fact that chemicals in plastics such as bottles of water can affect sperm also. Certain prescription drugs can affect sperm as can alcohol. These are just some of the things that can have an effect. Women who have spent years on the contraceptive pill can struggle to conceive and acupuncture can help rebalance the body after stopping the pill. It is worthwhile clients adjusting what they can (in terms of lifestyle and diet) three months before trying for a baby as it takes this length of time for new sperm to develop.

So how does a client know acupuncture is working? Common ways some women have shared are that they see a shift in their menstrual cycle, experience relief from occasional menstrual cramps or PMS, see an improvement in skin health, improved cervical mucus production and/or feel a shift in libido, energy levels and mood. Some women feel no different until they experience conception but in general, most men and women find the treatment relaxing and have a good sense of wellbeing after a few sessions”.

As you can see, there is a lot that can be done naturally with homeopathy and acupuncture hopefully without the need for heavyweight drugs.  If you would like to find out more about Alison her link is below and if you would like to contact me to see how homeopathy can help you with fertility issues please feel free to contact me for a free 15 minute consult.

About Alison

It Takes Two

It takes two
It takes two

A few weeks ago I attended a training day to top up my knowledge on using homeopathy to help couples conceive.

1 in 6 people in the UK* experience problems conceiving and the reasons they might undergo fertility treatments are:-

  • 29.8% male factor
  • 28.0% female factor
  • 10.3% multiple male & female
  • 0.2% menopausal
  • 0.5% avoid genetic disorder
  • 1.4% no male partner

That leaves 29.8% with unexplained infertility

In my practice I regularly help women with menstrual problems, endometriosis, Poly Cystic Ovaries (PCOS), irregular cycles and hormonal imbalances all of which can have an impact on fertility.

Sometimes women come to see me specifically to help them boost their fertility . During the consultation I will ask them about tests they may have had and I will also ask about any tests their partner may have had.  The answer to this is usually “oh he’s okay he has been tested”.

But what is okay?   When sperm is tested the volume (sperm count per millilitre – should be > 20m per ml), motility (how fast they swim – should be > 60%) and morphology (shape – should be > 14%).

Rather interestingly IVF treatments will accept 4% as being the normal range for morphology. So you can see why people might think they are okay.

Not everyone can afford IVF and some couples make a conscious decision not to go down the IVF route because of the huge amount of stress it can cause both financially and emotionally.

There are many things that can be done with a more natural and gentle approach using homeopathy. The beauty of homeopathy is it treats each case individually – one size does not fit all.

Lifestyle changes can also be made through diet and exercise which both partners can adopt quite easily before trying to conceive – avoiding caffeine, alcohol, giving up smoking and adopting a clean and healthy diet to name just a few.

I will be writing some more blogs on this subject over the coming week and will be featuring a guest blog on acupuncture which is another complementary therapy that works well alongside homeopathy and can also assist with fertility.

For the first time in my practice and because it really does “takes two” I am launching a “couples package” and for a limited period I will be offering this at a discounted price.

If you are interested and would like to find out more please contact me, because it really does take two.

Help – I’ve had a scan but I’m still worried

I've had a scan but I'm still worried
I’ve had a scan but I’m still worried

I’ve recently been helping Mary*, a young mother who has been experiencing deep rooted anxiety over her health.

When Mary came to see me her main cause of concern was around some pelvic pain that she had been experiencing. She informed me that she had been to her GP who had sent her for a scan and this confirmed everything was okay and clear.

This didn’t however stop Mary from worrying. In fact each time she got any pains, new or old she would always fear the worse. This caused her to worry and panic and consumed her every thought.

I have worked with Mary over the last six months. I have prescribed different remedies every step of the way and at each follow up appointment Mary has made steady progress.  Not only have her physical symptoms improved but her anxieties have reduced and are much easier for her to manage.

I am now fine-tuning Mary’s treatment to help her with her remaining anxiety and I am also working with her to help to raise her energy levels.   My aim is to get Mary to a good level of health and ideally for her anxiety to disappear altogether.

When we are worried about our health or keep stressing over a problem our minds can go into overdrive as we imagine all the possible scenarios and things that might be wrong with us, particularly if we Google our symptoms.  Also when we are in a permanent state of stress and worry this can cause our cortisol levels to rise which over the longterm time may cause adrenal fatigue.

If you are worried about your health or experience any anxieties and you would like to see how I can help you please feel free to contact me for a friendly no obligation chat.

Bouncing Back to Good Health

Bouncing back to good health
Bouncing back to good health

I have been treating a young boy since the beginning of October with various allergies, asthma, coughs, tummy problems and a history of taking prescribed steroids and anti-biotic which can cause more problems.

His Mum brought him to me because every winter he would get very ill and he would become quite anxious as winter approached. I’ve supported him through the winter with homeopathy. We still have some more work to do but interestingly because homeopathy treats the whole person it helps on so many other levels as you can see from some feedback that the boy’s mother sent me last week:-

“Hi Tracey, I just wanted to let you know how XXXX is doing, he has really calmed down, much less grumpy! He’s back to the kind, helpful loveable boy he always was! When he plays on the computer, he comes off with no problem now, he used to argue and be really rude. Now it’s “Ok Mummy” and he comes off!! He still has a little cough and has used his inhaler the last couple of days. But it doesn’t bother him and he gets over these attacks quickly. But overall his behaviour has really improved so I’ve seen really big changes. I’m really grateful so thank you so much.”

I have seen him 4 times since the beginning of October and now hopefully he will just be on a maintenance programme to continue to help his immune system become stronger. I am also hoping that he will not experience as many hay fever symptoms as Spring approaches.

Many people don’t realise that because homeopathy is holistic it can help on so many other levels, it works on both the physical and emotional side as the feedback above shows.

During treatment, as each person’s level of health improves other changes can also be noted as it helps the person return to good health.

I also don’t how a person will respond to a remedy and how the body will use it, so I ask my patients to note any changes on a diary sheet that I provide.   This allows me to assess the remedy at future appointments, I can then either change the remedy, repeat or increase the potency depending on what they report back to me.

Our body is very clever and it communicates with us all the time – we just have to be observant and listen to it.

If you would like to find out how I can help you please feel free to contact me for a free 15 minute consultation.

Don’t live with the pain of endometriosis

Don’t live with the pain of endometriosis

Do you experience painful pelvic pain or have been diagnosed with endometriosis?  There is no need to go through the pain or what this lady went through for most of her life.  Below she writes about how I helped her with her symptoms:

“As a sufferer of endometriosis since the age of 15 I was, now aged 55, coming to the end of my tether.  Every month I was dosing up with painkillers but the pain seemed to be worsening and I was losing hope that anything could be done.  The pointless pain was affecting my sanity, my work life and my home life.

After numerous visits to various doctors and specialists, all to no avail, a friend recommended I see a homeopath.  I was very sceptical of this mumbo jumbo voodoo magic called homeopathy but, as they say, when you are desperate, you’ll try anything and so I visited Tracey.  My only regret is that I hadn’t visited her years ago.

After the first treatment I felt a difference. The pain hadn’t exactly gone but it was easily bearable and I wasn’t popping the painkillers in the same way.  I had no idea what was happening but my body was changing.  The second month was even more improved and by the third month I was pain free.  Completely pain free.  I’m now a convert and will sing Tracey’s praises from the rooftops.

Her professional and friendly manner put me at ease and her complete belief in homeopathy was infectious.  No more mumbo jumbo voodoo magic.  Homeopathy is life changing and real.  Thank you Tracey”.

If you would like to find out more about how I can help you with endometriosis, painful periods, PCOS or pelvic pain  please feel free to contact me or book a free 15 minute call.

A Glowing Review from a Worried Mother

Back to good health & playing sport again.
*picture for illustrative purposes only.

Over the weekend I received a lovely review from a mother of a teenage boy that I helped in December and who is now participating in his sport again. He had been experiencing tummy pains, exhaustion and had experienced food intolerances since he was a young child.

He had been seeing his GP for this condition for 18 months.   Interestingly his mother is a medical Dr and an ex GP.  She had also done a basic course in homeopathy while she was in practice so she was aware of what homeopathy could achieve.

If you would like to read the review this can be found on my Testimonial Page or on my FB Page https://www.facebook.com/pg/traceycampbellhomeopath/reviews/?ref=page_internal

If you or a member of your family would like help with a health issues or would like to find out more then please feel free to contact me. I offer a free no obligation 15 minute consultation to enable people to chat to me and find out more about homeopathy and how the process works.

Migraines – Can I treat them myself?

Migraines – can I treat them myself?

I suffer from migraines so I know first hand how very painful and debilitating they can be. I used to get them monthly until my homeopath sorted them out for me (yes even homeopaths see other homeopaths for treatment).

Each person experiences migraine symptoms very differently to the next person so if you are self treating it is important to try to match your symptoms as near as possible to the remedy.

Selecting a remedy when you have a migraine can be quite difficult. During the holiday period I experienced an excruciating migraine and had to lie in a darkened room for a day. As a homeopath I have many homeopathic remedies to hand but I was unable to think clearly and be objective.

The remedy however that usually helps me during an acute phase of a migraine is Belladonna. For you and your symptoms the remedy may well be very different but I have listed below some remedies that may help you with a migraine.

Belladonna – Pain is usually right sided. The pain is described as throbbing and pulsating.   Worse for sun, motion and heat. Better when lying in a darkened room and for pressure on painful part.

Glonoinum – Feels like the head will burst with intense pounding. Worse for sun, heat, motion and alcohol. Better when lying in a dark room and for cold applications.

Nat Mur – Feels like lots of “tiny hammers” where the pain is. Pain is usually right sided but can alternate. There can be some visual disturbances and vomiting. Worse in the mornings, sun and eye strain. Better for cold applications and lying in a dark room.

Sanguinara – Pain is usually right sided and starts in the shoulders or neck. There is a burning and throbbing sensation. Menopausal. Worse after missing meals, mornings and as the day progresses. Feels better after sleep and vomiting.

Sepia – Pain is usually left sided headache located above left eye and forehead. Nausea. Motion sickness. Sensitive to light, particularly artificial light. Worse before or during period; pregnancy; menopause. Feels better for pressure, fresh air, after eating, sleeping and lying in the dark.

Homeopathic Treatment for Migraines
As you can see there are many remedies that can help ease a migraine but the best way to treat them is to get to the root cause.  For example, are they hormonal (menopause, pregnancy, ovulation) are they caused by stress or diet, how often do they occur?

If you experience regular migraines and would like to find out how I can help you using homeopathy please feel free to contact me for a no obligation chat.

Feeling happy or sad as we approach 2018?

Feeling happy or sad as we approach 2018
Feeling happy or sad as we approach 2018

This is a funny old time of year. I always liken it to a “no man’s land”.  The festivities of Christmas have passed and we await the new year, some of us are excited and happy but others may be feeling a little bit sad or depressed.

For me it’s a time to catch up with friends, reflect, read, restore my batteries and generally slow down. Then once the New Year arrives it’s full steam ahead. I am ready with new hopes, full of energy and enthusiasm and most importantly continue to help people feel healthier and happier.  It wasn’t always like this for me but that all changed when I saw a homeopath for the first time 18 years ago and it changed my life.

For some, this time of year can be extremely difficult. Some might be looking back and can’t bring themselves to think about what the future might hold. Others might not be able to let go of a past hurt, they may have had a sickness and aren’t as able as before, others may have had a bereavement. There are many reasons why this time of year can be tough and people feel sad.

I know this because January is one of my busiest months as I help people to overcome health issues, worries,  feeling sad and particularly those who experience the January Blues.

People that came to me at the start of last year have all told me that they feel so much happier and more positive. Some haven’t had to use their SAD lamps, others have not been affected by things that would have caused them to react, others are now able to cope with situations that might have previously caused them anxiety or a meltdown.

Here are some testimonials from some of the people I’ve helped.

So how can I help you to feel healthier and happier for 2018?
People always tell me that it really helps having someone to talk to who just listens and is non-judgmental.  The first consultation (which is up to 1.5 hours) and this alone can be extremely therapeutic, enables me to prescribe a remedy that matches you and your unique symptoms. I have over 3,000 remedies to choose from so there will be one that is just right for you.

All this can also be done from the comfort of your own home (via Skype). I have patients here in the UK, Europe and the US.

If you would like to have a chat to see how I can help you to feel better and help make 2018 your best year please contact me to book a free no obligation 15 minute call.

Grief – Saying Goodbye to a Wonderful Grandmother

Grief and Saying goodbye to a wonderful Grandmother

Names have not been changed as this blog is about saying goodbye to my a wonderful grandmother (pictured) and dealing with grief.

10 days ago my beautiful grandmother aged 99 fell asleep. She had an amazing life and was and will continue to be my inspiration. She was full of energy and had a great zest for life.  She had a wicked sense of humour. She lived life to the full, just a few weeks ago she was celebrated her 99th birthday with  the family and a glass of wine.

I received the phone call from my Aunt to say she had passed away peacefully in her bed and one of my uncle’s had been with her. She had been poorly for some months and whilst the news had been expected it didn’t make it easier to deal with.

During the last week I’ve experienced many emotions, a mixture of sadness and happiness recalling happy childhood memories, playing cricket in the garden with my cousins.  Christmas mornings where the whole family would gather to exchange presents. This also stirred up memories of both my parents that have also passed away over the years. Enter double whammy of grief.

It’s been 10 days since my Grandmother passed away and I have reflected how whilst I’ve been sad and weepy it hasn’t upset me as much as I thought it might. I started to ask myself why.

The answer was very clear. Nothing compared to the pain I felt when my Dad had been diagnosed with brain cancer during my last year of studying homeopathy in 2004. He had just turned 65 and had never been ill in his life.

I can still recall that phone call when he had been diagnosed and the feeling of complete and utter shock. The first remedy I took for this feeling was Arnica. Not many people realise but Arnica is an excellent remedy for shock.   I cried on and off for weeks and my homeopath prescribed me with Pulsatilla. My father died 9 months later and my sadness continued. It took me a very long time to come to terms with it but I continued to see my homeopath for support.

Grief
There are many stages of the grieving process and it is very different for all of us.   There is no time limit as to how long it will take for us to feel better. A few years later I also lost my Mum and again that was a very difficult time for me and once again homeopathic remedies came to the rescue.

My Grandmother’s funeral will be soon and whilst I don’t feel I need anything at the moment, I am sure I will take the homeopathic remedy Ignatia with me, especially as it is an excellent remedy for that “lump in the throat” and “choked up” feeling.

Grieving is never easy and we all go through it very differently. One thing is very important and that is we should allow ourselves to feel the emotions, which can vary from sadness, anger, guilt etc. If you experiencing a similar situation and after some time you are struggling to cope or are finding it difficult to move forward please feel free to contact me to see how I can help you with homeopathy.  I offer a free 15 minute consult.

Hot Flushes & Psoriasis

Hot Flushes and Psoriasis
Hot Flushes and Psoriasis

Pam* came to see me for her hot flushes, exhaustion and psoriasis. The first thing I noticed was she carried a bottle of water and didn’t let it go, holding it tightly and drinking from it throughout the consultation.

She told me she felt heated all the time, she was exhausted and it interfered with her sleep, she avoided public transport and would change clothes 3 times a day.

She was irritable with her family and it was getting the whole family down.

She explained that she’d had psoriasis since she was a child, she’d always lived with it and it was manageable but she felt it was getting worse.

The heat she felt in her body made her want to continually scratch her skin and this didn’t help. The psoriasis had always been on her elbows and knees but she told me it was now spreading to her legs, arms and face. She said she felt ugly.

I spent some time on her case and decided to prescribe her Sulphur which incorporated all of her symptoms working on the totality both on the physical and emotional levels.

Pam returned for her follow up appointment five weeks later.

I noticed her skin was less red and she told me it was less itchy so she was able to forget about it. She said her sleep had only began to improve in the last few weeks and her hot flushes had gradually reduced but were still happening but she wasn’t having to change clothes 3 times a day. I also noticed that she was not clinging to the bottle of water and only drank from it occasionally.

Pam continued to see me for a period of 6 months during which time we worked together, her skin improved gradually. Her hot flushes were far and few between and she was far less irritable with her family. I also supported Pam through a time when both her husband and father became ill. She told me that had this happened a few months earlier she would have gone into a complete meltdown and would probably have had a breakdown. She felt stronger and more confident in every aspect of her life.

She was so pleased with her treatment that she told her son about homeopathy and I went on to help him for depression and skin problems.

Homeopathy can support us on many levels and whilst Pam came to see me with hot flushes and psoriasis they are two very different conditions, however because homeopathy treats the whole person I selected a remedy that took into account all of her symptoms and also on the emotional side. This is why homeopathy is so effective – it treats the whole person and it is gentle, safe and more importantly non-toxic.

If you would like to find out more about how I may be able to help you please feel free to contact me for a no obligation chat or see visit my website to see some of the things homeopathy can help with.
