A Tale of Homesickness & Tummy Pains

A tale of a tummy ache & homesickness

Names have been changed for confidentiality reasons. It was World Digestion Day yesterday and I thought I would write about a young lady I helped a few years back.  She suffered with terrible tummy pains for over 7 years.

Yasmin, aged 24 years came to see me with severe abdominal pain, she could not eat and felt nauseas. She told me that when it was really bad she was unable to do anything and was could not even talk.  She’d had tests, scans and x-rays but they had all come back normal. She was now worried as she had been unable to eat properly for over 2 years and was only able to eat a little at a time and she was getting very thin. She only realized this because people kept saying how thin she was. She told me that the pain was getting worse and she was having difficulty sleeping.    She said her family worried about her this in turn made her worry about them.

When taking Yasmin’s case I asked her how long she had lived with this pain. I was shocked to discover that she had had it for 7 years.  This is when she moved to the UK from India with her family.   When deciding on the remedy to prescribe I took into account the feeling of homesickness together with her physical presenting symptoms. I prescribed her Sepia as this fitted with all of her symptoms at that time.  Yasmin’s treatment lasted for four months.   I changed the remedy half way through and each month she reported feeling much better. During this time, her appetite returned, she was eating much more and she gained weight. She was sleeping and was now doing more exercise.  She reported feeling happier than she had felt in a long time.

This is a classic example of how homeopathy treats the whole person, unlike conventional medicine, as well as her physical symptoms I also considered her emotional symptoms since leaving her home in India.   I asked her how this had made her feel.  As a homeopath I work with my patients to identify the root cause and in this case she had left a place where she had grown up and had been very happy.  We can never underestimate how our emotions can affect our health on all levels.  What was very sad was that Yasmin had lived with this condition for 7 years.

If you are experiencing any abdominal pains (or other pains) and have had tests but they have all come back negative but you are still experiencing pain and just don’t feel right please feel free to contact me to see how I am able to help you using homeopathy.  I offer a free 15 minute obligation chat which can be booked on line.

Tummy Aches in Children & Homeopathy

Tummy Aches in Children & Homeopathy
All Smiles Again. A Tummy Ache made better with Homeopathy.

(for privacy reasons the names have been changed)

This is the story of a little girl called Lucy who was brought to see me by her worried Mum. For the last few months Lucy had been getting painful tummy aches and they were starting to interfere with her school work and she was feeling very miserable which wasn’t like her.   She would sometimes have to take Gaviscon and Neurofen.

Her Mum had taken Lucy to the Dr’s but after carrying out various tests they could not find anything wrong with her so she decided to look at homeopathy and visited me.

As with all new cases I take a thorough case history and talk to the children and ask them to describe, in their own words, the pain that they are feeling. I ask them lots of questions but I make the questions fun. This helps them to relax and open up. In no time at all, I soon discovered that Lucy loved animals but sometimes she would get a little bit anxious at school which she enjoyed and she worried about things. She told me that she sometimes had nightmares and she was scared of monsters and ghosts. She liked to be covered up and kept warm at night when she slept. There had also been a change in circumstances at home around the same time as Lucy’s tummy aches started but she said she wasn’t unhappy about the changes but I still take this into consideration.

After analyzing Lucy’s physical symptoms and emotional symptoms I prescribed her with Phosphorus. I then asked her Mum to keep a diary of any changes or improvements and to return in 4 weeks for a follow up appointment where we would assess the remedy action.

Lucy returned with her Mum 4 weeks later. She was smiling and very happy. She told me that shortly after taking the remedy the pains had reduced and by two weeks they had completely disappeared.   She also reported that she was no longer having bad dreams and was sleeping better.

This is a classic example of how well children respond to homeopathy and I am seeing more and more young children in my consulting room who are experiencing problems with their tummy, sleep or headaches. It seems that children today are under far more pressure than ever before and it can manifest in a physical symptom.

If you are worried about any symptoms your child might be having either on a physical or emotional level please feel free to contact me for free 15 minute confidential and no obligation chat to see how I may be able to help you or them with homeopathy.

Your Time to Shine

Your time to shine

The other evening I was invited to give a talk on the menopause to approximately 30 women.

After introducing myself I wanted to know how they regarded the menopause so I asked for a show of hands of those who viewed it negatively and those that embraced it?   I wasn’t surprised to discover that almost everyone in the room viewed it as a negative experience and stage of their life.

This is hardly surprising if we consider the symptoms that women experience when they are going through this stage of their life. There are a whole host of symptoms that will be thrown at us as our bodies adjust to the fluctuating hormones.

Thankfully not everyone will experience them but people usually report experiencing at least one or two of the symptoms such as hot flushes, anxieties, mood swings, digestive disturbances, insomnia, feeling bloated, weight gain, migraines/headaches and even memory loss/brain fog.

Then we also have the emotional side of the menopause and some of the things I regularly hear are:-

“I keep thinking back to when I was young and newly married” – this is normally around the time when children are fleeing the nest.

“I feel like there’s no one to talk to” – they might feel they no longer have anything in common with their partner.

“I really can’t face getting out of bed in the morning” – they might feel it’s the end of the road for them.

“I feel tearful and alone” – the house feels empty.

“I feel old, unattractive and afraid my husband will go off me” – fear of ageing.

All these negative thoughts and emotions can start to affect people’s lives and people can find themselves in a downward spiral.

I really enjoy encouraging and inspiring women to look at this chapter in their life as new and exciting.  It’s a time to start looking forward, it’s a new dawn and your time to shine.   Time to rediscover who you are, do the things that you never had time to do before the kids came along, e.g. take dance classes, cookery classes, meet up with friends, get to know your partner again, in fact anything that takes your fancy.

I have a toolbox of over 3,000 homeopathic remedies to use and love supporting women who are going through the menopause.   If you would like to find out more about how I can help you using homeopathy which is a safe , gentle and non-toxic form of medicine please feel free to contact me for a no obligation chat.

It really is your time to shine.

When a Gut Feeling makes you feel unwell

Brain & Gut Connection
Brain & Gut Connection

Our emotions play a big role in gastro intestinal disorders and much research has been done over the connection between the brain and gut and how closely they interact with each other. We’ve all experienced that feeling of butterflies in our stomach when we are excited or apprehensive about a certain situation, this is because a big part of our emotions are more than likely influenced by the nerves in our gut.  Our brain and gut are communicating with each other all the time.

Given how closely the gut and brain interact, it has become clear that emotional and psychosocial factors can trigger symptoms in the gut. This is especially true in cases when the gut is acting up and there’s no obvious physical cause for example with symptoms of IBS, Chrohns, Colitis.

If you have IBS then you will be familiar with the symptoms that can sometimes make your life a misery. The symptoms range from abdominal cramps, bloating, diarrhoea or constipation.

As a homeopath when I treat someone with IBS or any gastro intestinal disorder, I discuss everything with you; when your symptoms are worse, if anything makes them better and together we look at triggers, diet, lifestyle or things that have happened to you in the past and any history of taking anti-biotics.

I then work on your case to find a remedy based on you as a person and your IBS symptoms. By taking this approach and trying to find the root cause it is my aim to help improve your symptoms.

If you would like to find out more or to have a chat to see how I may be able to help you with any symptoms you may be experiencing then please contact me  for a free no obligation chat.
