If you do find you get flu the best and kindest thing to do is to listen to your body. Rest is key and it’s important to keep yourself hydrated by drinking lots of fluids. My favourite drink for flu, sore throats, coughs & colds is hot water, freshly squeezed lemon juice, honey, freshly chopped ginger & cayenne pepper.
There are some homeopathic remedies that can help with flu symptoms but one thing we should remember is the symptoms are sometimes a sign that the body is having “clear out”. I usually advise my patients not to suppress symptoms with over the counter medicines such as Day/Night nurse, Beechams max etc – encourage the symptoms to come out this will hopefully avoid further complications down the line. Symptoms should leave your body and not be suppressed.
If however, you do need help with your symptoms I would suggest the following homeopathic remedies:-
|Aconite||Symptoms come on suddenly, esp. at night. Worse from exposure to cold, dry winds. There is fever, thirst and sweat. Dry, painful cough.|
|Allium Cepa||Good remedy for runny nose & ears with burning discharge.|
|Arsenicum||Chilly, Restless, symptoms usually start in the nose, thin, watery, burning discharge. Copious sneezing. Cold sometimes goes deeper to the chest. Will want to drink small sips of water.|
|Belladonna||The key here is symptoms appear quickly. This is a good fever remedy. High fever, redness and burning. Headaches and pains throbbing.|
|Bryonia||Symptoms come on very gradually. Irritability and will want to be left alone and to be completely still and quiet. There will be thirst. Another good remedy when the cold goes to the chest and there is a dry cough.|
|Eupatorium||Aching bones, thirsty and sweating. Usually accompanied by a headache.|
|Ferrum Phos||This is a good remedy when you feel you are coming down with something and feel a little bit run down with some thirst.|
|Gelsemium||Shivering, muscle weakness & tiredness are a good indication for this remedy. Symptoms develop slowly. Not very thirsty.|
Take every 30 minutes for 3 doses, if no change move to next indicated remedy.
