Hair Loss after illness

I have recently been helping women who are very anxious and upset after experiencing hair loss following illness.  The good news is if your hair loss was due to illness, an emotional shock or an accident it WILL  grow back.

We shed up to 50-100 hairs a day anymore can be a sign for concern.

Hair loss of this nature isn’t noticeable immediately and you may not notice changes until almost 3 months.  Even though hair loss of this type is usually temporary it can cause a lot of stress and anxiety which may have an impact of any new hair growth.

We usually shed between 50-100 hairs a day but sometimes more hair can fall out following a stressful period or after an illness.

High stress levels can also cause hormonal imbalances which will have an impact on hair growth so if you are stressed try to find a way to manage or reduce your stress as much as possible.

Some of the things you can do to encourage hair re-growth are:-

  • Massage your scalp in the shower each morning – using oils such as almond, rosemary, peppermint oil or lemon juice which will stimulate your scalp
  • Brush your hair with a natural thistle brush which will also stimulate hair follicles
  • If you’ve had anti-biotics your gut flora will be out of balance so take a pro-biotic
  • Vitamin A, B and C supplements will also help
  • Eat a balanced diet with lots of berries, eggs, spinach, oily fish, sweet potatoes, avocados
  • Visit a hair dresser and have a good cut
  • See a homeopath who can help not only with the hair loss but can help with recovery, anxiety and much more.

Different things will work for different people so experiment and see what works best for you.

There are many homeopathic remedies for hair loss but the key is to look at the overall picture especially what caused the hair loss.  Some of the remedies I have been prescribing recently are Phos, Ph-Ac, Silica and Arsenicum but what is needed varies from person to person.

There are also many other reasons for hair loss such as hormonal imbalances, peri-menopause, thyroid issues, high insulin or insulin resistance.   If however your hair loss is due to some of these reasons then I will use very different remedies to help address any hormonal imbalances.
