Homeopathic Remedies for Back to School Anxiety

September  is the time of year when children are most likely to experience back to school anxiety.

The summer holidays are coming to an end and up and down the country parents will be getting their children ready for school.

For some children, this can be a time for anxiety especially if they are starting school for the first time, changing schools or just returning and going into the next class.

Some children look forward to going back and seeing their friends again, others aren’t so keen and for others it might be the first time.

Small children might be worried how they will make friends, what their teachers will be like, will they like them, they might even worry they will get lost in a large building. All these thoughts and feelings are natural and there are some coping strategies that you can use to help them:-

  • Start to get them into a routine by going to bed earlier
  • Ask them how they are feeling and if they anxious reassure them
  • Highlight the positives e.g how they will make new friends or that they will see friends again

Some children may develop a deeper anxiety and signs to look out for are:-

I have listed below some homeopathic remedies that you can try for anxiety  and if you have done my course you will already be familiar with some of them.

Aconite – this remedy can be used if your child is showing signs of panic attacks and they are very restless.
Arg Nit – this is a popular remedy that can be used for anticipatory anxiety.  They might be jittery and tell you they have butterflies in their tummy.  They will also ask you lots of questions.
Arsenicum
– a child needing this remedy might start to talk about school weeks before they are due back, and might begin getting their school bag read.  They may be very restless and find it difficult to sleep.
Gelsemium – this is another remedy for anticipatory anxiety but your child will be feeling weak, shakey and may also have signs of dizziness.
Pulsatilla – this remedy is excellent if your child is showing signs of clinginess and crying

There are of course many more remedies that can help and if you are worried about your child please reach out to me.  It is always best to nip these things in the bud, although after the first few days most children soon settle into their new routines.
